Description

Blue Island Oyster Foundation presents the 8th annual 5K to protect the Great South Bay. Donations and sponsorships from the run go to the Blue Island Oyster Foundation, a registered 501c3. 

The main event will take place at scenic Foster Avenue Park!  A virtual option remains for folks who can't make it to run or walk with us in person.  We ask participants to share their runs via social media using #5kRunfortheBay.

Race Give Away

Participants will have the option of selecting one of the following giveaways at registration:

  • 5k Run for the Bay Tote Bag
  • 5k Run for the Bay Custom Colors Heavy Duty Ringspun Tee (quantities limited to the first 190 registrants who select this option, additional $10)
  • 5k Run for the Bay Custom Colors Heavy Duty Crewneck Sweatshirt (quantities limited to the first 190 registrants who select this option, additional $25)

Raffles

All participants are eligible for several race raffles which include gift cards from Sayville Running Company, gear from New Balance, and more!  

Donate $5 at check out or to the Blue Island Oyster Foundation, by any means through race day, 4/20/2024, and be entered to win 4 box tickets to a 2024 Season game for the Long Island Ducks along with a signed baseball.  (Every $5.00 donation is equal to 1 chance to win.  So a $20.00 donation is 4 chances.)

 

 

Packet Pickup

Early packet pickup will be available at Sayville Running Company (19 Main Street, Sayville, NY 11782 - click here for directions)
Thursday, April 18th from Noon to 6pm
Friday, April 19th from 11am to 5pm

Race day packet pickup will be on site at Foster Avenue Park from 7:00am to 7:45am race day morning

Awards

Custom crafted Oyster Medal Awards to the top overall finishers, plus the 3 winners in 5 year age groups from 10 and under, to 80+.

Course

The 5k is a flat and fast USATF certified course through the streets of South Sayville. 

5k Course records:

  • Men: 15:50.4 Dan Gargaro, West Islip, NY (2018)
  • Women: 17:44.2 Alyssa Salese, Huntington, NY (2022)

The 1.8 Mile Walk is not timed and takes place on flat streets in South Sayville

Parking Information

Parking will be available on River Road
(Parking lot directly across from Sayville Ferry Service)

Participants will be given a voucher for free parking with their registration.  Upon entering the parking lot registrants will take a ticket from the machine in order to open the gate. Upon departure of the parking lot they will present the pass as payment .

Our mission for the 5K Run for the Bay is to bring our community together to run, walk and celebrate for a cause we all can connect to; restoring and giving new life to our treasured Great South Bay. All donations will benefit Blue Island Oyster Foundation who is dedicated to the revitalization of the bay through sustainable initiatives and community outreach. Through the run, we aim to continue to increase the awareness of environmental activism needed to help revive the ecosystems and water quality of the Great South Bay.
